Life of a wear plate

by Anonymous

How long is the maximum life of a wear plate?

The purpose of a wear plate in an injection mould is to act as a sacrificial component in preference to the main core or cavity inserts.

In other words, it protects the expensive mould components from wearing and therefore needing replacement or rework.

The expected life of a wear plate should be for in the hundreds of thousands of cycles provided it is properly heat treated, properly fitted and it is kept clean during production.
